Zones

The cost of shipping an item varies according to its destination. eShop allows you to sub-divide your shipping charges by “zones” & to apply different charges accordingly. You can define up to 9 shipping zones (1 — 9).

For example, a UK based shop using Parcelforce could define the following delivery zones:

  • Zone 1: England, Wales and parts of Scotland, excluding Highlands and Islands.
  • Zone 2: The Highlands and Islands of Scotland
  • Zone 3: Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Isles of Scilly
  • Zone 4: Europe
  • Zone 5: The rest of the world

Shipping Classes

The cost of shipping an item can also vary according to its weight, size, cost or fragility. eShop allows you to define up to 5 shipping classes (A — E) to accommodate different products. Shipping Class F is reserved for free shipping.

For example, a clothing and accessories shop might define their shipping classes as follows:

  • Class A: small items of costume jewellry
  • Class B: small items of gold/solver jewellry requiring insurance
  • Class C: smaller items of clothing
  • Class D: hats requring special packaging
  • Class E: larger items of clothing

Shipping Rate Calculations

eShop offers 4 methods of calculating the correct shipping.

Method 1

Calculate a shipping charge for the first item based on delivery zone & shipping class with a reduced cost for additional items.
Example: Cost to ship 1 item: £2
Cost to ship each additional item: £1
Shipping charges for 3 items: £4

Method 2

Calculate a shipping charge based on delivery zone & shipping class — with no reduction for additional items
Example:
Cost to ship 1 Class A item: £2
Cost to ship each additional Class A item: 0
Cost to ship 3 Class A items: £2
Cost to ship 1 Class B item: £4
Cost to ship each additional Class B item: 0
Cost to ship 3 Class B items: £4
Cost to ship 3 Class A items + 3 Class B items: £6

Method 3

Calculate a shipping charge based on delivery zone only.
Example:
Cost to ship 1 A class item to Zone 1: £2
Cost to ship 1 A class item to Zone 2: £3
Cost to ship 20 A class items to Zone 1: £2
Cost to ship 20 A class items to Zone 2: £3

Method 4

Calculate a shipping charge based on delivery zone & product weight. This is the most complex of all of the shipping rate calculations to configure as you need to create your own shipping “modes”. The modes refer to different delivery methods (Postal, Airmail, Pigeon) or providers (Parcelforce, Parcel2Go, DHL etc).

If you are using Methods 1, 2 or 3, use the Shipping Zones by dropdown to select whether you will be applying shipping by country or state and define what Zone to apply if the customer does not indicate their country or state.

If you are using Method 4, add each of your shipping modes (1 per line) to the Shipping Modes textarea and enter your weight unit (e.g. kgs or lbs).

For all Methods, click Update Shipping calculations. On the updated page, you will now be able to define your individual shipping charges. Remember to enter a starting weight for each of your custom shipping modes and to enter a weight for each of your products and/or options.

Countries

If you have opted to apply shipping charges by Country, you can now define the zone that each country will be categorised under in your shop. Use the List checkbox promote countries to the top of Country dropdown the in the checkout forms (useful if you mainly ship to 1 or 2 countries). New countries can be added by adding a unique2-letter code, country name and zone to the bottom of the list. Existing countries can also be amended as required.

State/County/Province

If you have opted to apply shipping charges by State/County/Province, you can now define the zone that each state will be categorised under in your shop. As with countries, new states can be added to the bottom of the list and promoted in the checkout dropdown using the List checkbox.

Use the List dropdown to select which country you will be shipping to. The Use All checkbox will result in every state that is currently stored in your database to be listed on the page.

Applying Shipping Rates

Shipping rates are applied on a per product basis in each product’s Post or Page.
