FlipFlop is 6 themes in one. Using the theme’s colour changer, you can switch between orange. blue, red, green, grey or gold colour schemes in two clicks of your mouse. Add in the 6 headers that are shipped with the theme and that’s at least 36 theme permutations!

If you are not using a custom menu in the Lower menu location, the title of any Post marked as ‘sticky’ will automatically be displayed in the lower horizontal menu — maximising the visibility of all of your important Posts across your site.

Great for posting updates, alerts etc without worrying about which page your visitors will land on.

The theme also boasts no less than 6 header images — with on-hover changes — so that you further customise your site. Or use the “Random” option to show a different header image on every page.

Whilst it is designed to work within a child of Twenty Eleven, it should be possible to adapt the template to suit other themes. If you are using another theme, remember that you will need to replicate the html structure of your own theme within the template.

You can then save your new template as pageofposts.php, upload it to your theme and then assign the Page of Posts template to your new Page via the Page Template Dropdown.

But they have difficulty creating a basic child theme.

So rather than explaining how to create a child theme again… and again… and again, I’ve uploaded two new theme downloads – a Twenty Ten child theme & a Twenty Eleven child theme.

Please note that these downloadable child themes do not implement any changes. They are purely “blank slates” for you add your own customisations to.

Simply upload the themes to your WordPress site, activate one of them and start customising!

One of the theme’s users alerted me to a typo in format-image.php which was, unfortunately, triggering a fatal error when the Image post format was applied to a post.

Apologies to anyone who was hit by this bug. Please update to the new version to correct the problem. Thanks also to the wordpress.org Theme Review Team who managed to get the new version into the Theme Repository within 24 hours of the updated version being submitted.

ZenLite Vertical was created as a proof of concept to demonstrate what can be achieved in a child theme with the minimum of extra PHP coding. Namely, to take a single column theme with a horizontal menu and turn it into a 2-column theme with a left accordion (folding) menu.

ZV contains its own header, footer, front page and sidebar templates but these are mainly trimmed-down variants of the original theme. Most of the heavy customisation work is pure CSS. The end result is a very minimalistic look with a de-cluttered display that makes good use of the Open Sans Google font.
