The Text In My WordPress Posts Changed!

You’ve been happily blogging in WordPress for a while. Then, suddenly, the text on your front page posts is all bold. Or all italics. What happened?

The chances are that you’ve been using the <!– more –> tag to create short post teasers for your blog’s front page. In one of your recent posts, you managed to place this tag inside some bold or italic formatting. Because WordPress stops the post teaser display at the <!– more –> tag, your browser never receives the instruction to stop displaying text in bold/italics. So it carries on… and on…

The trick here is to avoid placing the ‘more’ where it could cause this kind of trouble. So, when adding a <!– more –> tag, always try to ensure that you leave at least 1 blank line before and 1 blank line after the tag.

To correct any existing problems, go back through your recent posts — moving the <!– more –> tag so that it sits on its own line with a blank line either side. Check your site after each post edit. You should find that your post teaser text returns to normal after a few post edits.
